Fumed Silica A-200K Enhances High-Temperature Stability of Cement Slurry



Fumed silica (e.g., A-200K) significantly improves the high-temperature stability of cement slurry due to its high specific surface area (~200 m²/g) and nanoscale particle size (~12 nm). It effectively adsorbs free water on cement particle surfaces, forming a three-dimensional network structure, thereby enhancing slurry stability under elevated temperatures. Examples include:

Ultra-High-Temperature Anti-Degradation Cement Slurry:
In heavy oil thermal recovery wells (up to 345°C), fumed silica is combined with silica flour and dead-burned magnesia as a high-temperature stabilizer.

This formulation prevents strength degradation of set cement under high-temperature steam conditions, maintaining a compressive strength above 35 MPa at 350°C.

High-Temperature Suspension Stabilizer:
When blended with polyaluminum ferric chloride and attapulgite, fumed silica significantly reduces sedimentation issues in cement slurry.
This mixture is suitable for well cementing applications in 50–160°C environments.

This technology ensures long-term durability and performance of cement slurries in extreme downhole conditions.
